Finding a financial adviser who can understand you is important but also one that fits as far as personalities go is just as important.

A registered financial adviser must
- Take reasonable steps to ensure your clients understand the nature and scope of the advice being provided, including any limitations about that. For example, you must explain if you’re only able to give advice about certain products.

- At all times, exercise care, diligence and skill.
- Comply with the new Code of Professional Conduct for financial advice services including competence, knowledge and skill requirements as well as requirements for ethical behaviour, conduct and client care.
- Only recommend financial products to clients that are offered in compliance with the FMC Act and its regulations.
- Ensure you follow the new disclosure regulations and that any information you make available to clients is not false, misleading or incomplete.

A registered financial adviser must also belong to a Disputes Resolution Scheme which is to help you when there is a dispute. A Disputes Resolution Scheme will give you peace of mind when finding a financial adviser because they are an independent body that will assist you with any disputes that may arise with your adviser.
Finding an adviser you get along with
Financial advisers have a strict code to adhere to, and a disputes resolution provider, so finding someone qualified should be simple enough.
However, you should find someone you get along with and where your personalities don’t clash. If you do not feel like you connected, then maybe you should consider a different adviser.
